WASHINGTON, DC: International Shinto Foundation Open House
Doshu Shintaku demonstrates Japanese sword and martial arts and their connection to Shinto in an "open house" sponsored by the International Shinto Foundation. The afternoon consisted of a purification ceremony by Shinto Priest Otagaki; Ikebana (flower arranging) performance, Shinto Spirit in Martial Arts by Doshu Shintaku and ended with a performance of the Japanese tea ceremony. HONBU DOJO: In a continuing effort to share the traditional aspects of Japanese teachings, TSIR proudly hosted an afternoon with Mr. Mitsuteru Matsuda, professionally trained in Japan as an actor. Mr. Matsuda has a deep understanding of the Kojiki, it's history and meaning. The Kojiki (620 AD) is the ancient text of Japan which outlines the creation mythology of Japan. NEW YORK, NY: A seminar covering the philosophy and teachings of TSIR was held at the International Shinto Foundation in New York, NY by Doshu Shintaku and student Rabi Dixon. Many of the concepts found in various traditional Japanese arts were explored for their teachings in the traditional ways of Japan. These teachings are in keeping with the teachings of TSIR. ST. THOMAS, ONTARIO: Doshu Shintaku held the first TSIR seminar at the newest addition to the TSIR family - Antaya's Martial Arts. Located in St. Thomas Ontario Canada, seminar participants spent the weekend training in TSIR with Doshu Shintaku. Thank you to Antaya Sensei, his wife, Steve Abdey, the students and their families for making the weekend memorable! Doshu will be traveling to Canada regularly. JAPAN: In continuing efforts to introduce Japan to westerners, Doshu arranged a two week visit to Japan. The group toured historically significant sites in the martial arts, visited shrines, temples and traditional dojos to experience training in Japan. Cities they visited include Tokyo, Nikko, Kyoto and Doshu's hometown of Wakayama. TSIR held a demonstration in Wakayama. Attendance was high and the event was even aired on Wakayama television! These trips are a great way to share between cultures and learn more about Japanese martial arts. View photos »
NEW YORK: Doshu held a sword demonstration at the International Shinto Foundation. The emphasis was on the relationship between traditional Japanese martial arts (sword in particular) and its relationship to Shinto. Thank you to the ISF for this wonderful opportunity. Shintoism is the indigenous faith of Japan and is deeply rooted in Japanese culture.
WASHINGTON DC: To help raise money and awareness of programs at the National Zoo, Ten Shin Ichi Ryu will be demonstrating the art of Iaido (Japanese sword) at Black & White Night -- which also celebrates the birth of panda Tai Shan. ROCKVILLE, MARYLAND: The 5th Annual Ten Shin Ichi Ryu Seminar was held the weekend of April 21, 22 and 23 2006 with Master Instructors Shiro Shintaku Hanshi (Founder, Ten Shin Ichi Ryu), Motoo Yamakura Hanshi (Chairman, Goju-Ryu Karate-Do Kyokai) and S. Castoro Hanshi (World Ju Jitsu of Sicily). Thanks to Vic Kinsella, Allen Nealy and Kyle Olinger for their informative sessions as well.
WASHINGTON, DC: TSIR participates for the 5th time at the National Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, DC. This annual event is a highlight of the Washington DC area and celebrates years of friendship betwen Japan and the US. Cultural exhibits, food and a parade make this a favorite for families each year. TSIR holds its demonstration each year at the Tidal Basin in front of Jefferson Memorial.
KENSINGTON, MARYLAND: Shinto Priest M. Inui of the International Shinto Foundation performed a ritual blessing and purification of the TSIR Honbu Dojo. Rev. Inui also performed a traditional Japanese tea ceremony for students and guests. It is an old custom to have dojo's purified in this manner and TSIR remains extremely grateful to Rev. Inui and the ISF for this honor.
OLATHE, KANSAS: On April 24, 2004 TSIR held a martial arts demonstration in Olathe, Kansas. The demonstration was very successfuly. Approximately 200 spectators were on hand to watch various martial arts demonstrations, music and an art exhibition.
Doshu Shintaku along with Ten Shin Ichi Ryu participants Eric Wagner, Robert Hafford, and Shawn Morris were on hand to provide the demo of the art of TSIR.
KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI: TSIR Demonstration was held Saturday the 13th with Doshu Shintaku's demonstration.
